run amok

the last you is a faded memory

ok, so last night i made a bit of an introduction to evacuation explaining it. something to the tune of:

"this is a new song for run amok but its old for me, i wrote it a few years ago .. i remember in 2001 poppunk was really cool, like supercool and everyone loved it .. then the next year all of a sudden it was super uncool and hardcore was the new cool .. and this song is about everyone who burnt their mxpx t-shirts in 2002"

now, people being people, and the 'scene' being what it is, it's only a matter of time before this gets misinterpreted and someone thinks i'm 'talking smack about hardcore', so what better time than now to get things straight? i have a habit of speaking my mind and ending up in arguments. it's all well and good to get up on a high horse because someone is talking about styles but when it comes down to it, it's a really simple thing. evacuation doesn't say anything about hardcore. or poppunk. or any other style of music. what it talks about is the people who mindlessly follow trends. i'm sure you all know the kind of person i'm talking about. maybe they were in a poppunk band or jumping up and down to new found glory back in the day, then all of a sudden you see them with plugs, dyed black hair, with a camo marine hat and a day of contempt shirt doing windmills at an all-star tattoo show to against.

this is not saying anything bad about against. i like against, as i have for many years, having met greg through his ex ramona. actually i introduced him and his current girlfriend rachel. you'll find refused, grade, from autumn to ashes, and from these wounds, playlist right next to mxpx, further seems forever, bad religion, throwdown, thrice, timo maas and tool. finch and frank sinatra. sommerset next to social distortion, coheed & cambria sandwiched between converge and coalesce, day of contempt next to dashboard, the death of anna karina next to the get up kids, and mid youth crisis next to midtown. to say that i have anything against a certain style of music or the people who listen to it (with the exception of drug-fucked ravers .. they're messed up) is just beyond absurd. i don't care about subcultures or stereotypes, hell i have a comic called ministry of subculture. i don't give a shit what you listen to, if you mindlessly follow what everyone else says is cool, i'm going to give you shit for being a sheep. if you threaten people for disagreeing with you, i'm going to call you a meatheaded wanker, regardless of whether you listen to hardcore or hard trance.

one thing that has always irritated me about the 'scene' is people who are far too willing to talk about people behind their backs than just deal with their differences face to face (or post for post) in a mature manner. i've got nothing against anyone based on what they listen to, but i *do* have a great deal to say about people based on their choices and actions. we've all heard about my great debates with xthreatx (aka xallanx). yeah, they were funny, but they happened for a reason; that was people taking themselves and the music they listen to too seriously. allan and i made up our differences in the end, and if anyone has anything to say to me about my opinions and the way i voice them, feel free to come up and discuss them with me before a show some time.
